September

About this performance

September is one of those tunes that seems to lift the room as soon as the groove starts. For this tenor version, I wanted to keep that bright Earth, Wind & Fire energy while giving the melody enough room to sit naturally on saxophone. The main challenge is staying relaxed inside such a busy, joyful groove. I kept the sax warm and direct, letting the rhythm section provide the excitement rather than trying to play over the top of it.
